On Friday, April 12, St Kane’s Church Centre in New Deer celebrated its tenth birthday.

William Brown welcomed everyone and introduced the guests for the evening, former ministers Dr Rev Russel Moffat, Dr Rev Alistair Donald and the Moderator of Buchan Presbytery Ian Leslie and their wives.

Mr Brown began with an overview of the development of the centre, followed by Rev Moffat explaining how the initial idea gained momentum after the purchase of the building in 1993.

Rev Donald summarised how the final funding was raised and recalled the opening of the centre in 2003.

The centre was ‘Built in Faith’ and has been a real asset to the village as well as St Kane’s Church.

Longside Parish Church Choir, led by Gordon Hay, provided the evening’s entertainment with a wide and varied selection of music and songs.

The evening was concluded with a welcome cup of tea after the birthday cake was cut.

The cake was cut by Anne Milne and Edna Brownlee the two stalwarts who co-ordinate the everyday workings of the Mustard Seed Cafe and church centre.
