Buchanhaven Heritage Society is currently moving through the last stage of the Asset Transfer process, with title deeds about to be exchanged in the next few weeks.
This means funding applications can now be submitted to a range of potential funders, with a view of a full refurbishment being delivered ensuring the “auld schoolie” will once again come back to its former glory.
Full plans have been drawn up following support from the Big Lotteries Investing in Ideas and the team are meantime drawing up an action plan to see this stage delivered in 2016-2017.
Feedback from the community has been very positive and although significant work has still to be progressed the team has been revitalised following agreement to pass the ownership of the centre to the society
In addition to the physical work at the centre, events and exhibitions are currently being finalised for the second half of 2015 with some exciting events in the pipeline.
This includes the return of the popular Dickension Choir during the Christmas period.
Meanwhile, coming soon will be The Vikings, who are arriving at the centre with loads to do for the young folk of the town.
Work is also progressing well with the team’s “Identity” project and the new tartan is currently being registered in Edinburgh ahead of it going to the Knockando Mill for weaving.
It will then become available for gifts and soft furnishings along with kilts for those keen to show their love of the area.
Commenting on the latest developments, Elizabeth Milne, society vice-chair, said: “Things are moving forward in a positive way at the centre and we look forward to seeing a full refurbishment take place in the years ahead.
“As a team we are currently looking at innovative ways to move our work forward and think our events still to come will have something for everyone to enjoy and take part in.
“All this would not be possible without the full support of the community and for that we will be forever grateful,” she added.
