Gospel singer Matthew James McKay (14), is heading to Nashville on a trip of a lifetime next month.
The youngster, from Gardenstown, will travel to the Ben Speer Stamp-Baxter School of Music on July 3 for a two-week intensive vocal and musical training course.
The school itself is dedicated to the furtherance of Southern Gospel and to raising the standard of music excellence, attracting students from 8-years upwards from the United States and countries around the world.
The trip had come about after Matthew James had been singing at the Peterhead Baptist Womens Fellowship, where the group’s president forwarded the youngster’s DVD and his three CDs to Ben Speer, the owner of the musical school.
Mr Speer then contacted Matthew James who felt the youngster would be a good candidate for the school.
Matthew James would like to thank all who have supported him and encouraged him to make the self-funded trip.
A week after returning from Nashville, he will travel to Northern Ireland where he will be the guest singer at Portrush Drive-In Church, where up to 1000 people will attend. He had previously sang at the venue in August, 2012, describing it as a great experience.
