Two shoppers at Morrisons in Peterhead were treated for minor cuts after a panel from the entrance canopy shattered on top of them.
The incident took place on Tuesday, in the early afternoon as shoppers were making their way in to the store.
Staff at the store had no idea as to why the glass fell and a property estates management team for Morrisions were on their way to the site soon after to investigate the incident.
The injured customers were treated on the scene by staff who were trained in First Aid, but an ambulance was called as a precaution.
The area surrounding the entrance and exit of the store where the glass fell was cordoned off with police tape as the shattered pieces were cleared away.
A fire crew from Grampian Fire and Rescue was also called to the scene and after checking the area helped to remove any remaining shards of glass from the entrace.
A side fire exit door was used as a temporary entrance and exit while investigations were underway.
A spokesperson for Morrisons told the Buchanie: “There was an incident at our Peterhead store that is being investigated by both Morrisons and local environmental health.
“We wish the customers who were involved speedy recoveries.”
