Organisers of the Peterhead Relay for Life 2016 have announced their final total and are delighted to say it has beaten their previous UK best .
This year’s total is £219,353, surpassing the event’s previous best in 2014 by £13,000.
Relay For Life Peterhead were delighted to have Loretta Brisciani and Fiona Harvey from Cancer Research UK at the total reveal night on Thursday, August 25.
Event chair, Lorraine Coleman, said: “They were so appreciative of the amount raised and they had a video of scientists from The Beatson Institute in Glasgow thanking us for supporting their great work.
“We were jumping at the total as it was more than we ever imagined.
“It has been a delight being part of such an enthusiastic and dedicated Relay.
“The teamwork of the enthusiastic 31 teams, the dedicated committee and volunteers, the spirit and inspiration of the survivors and carers and the generosity of the public and sponsors makes the dream work.
“The dream is for all cancers to have cures and as a result more people will survive cancer.”
Lorraine added: “A massive congratulations and thanks goes toeveryone involved, you are amazing!
“It is so humbling to know that we will be helping Cancer Research UK with preventions and cures.”
Teams have already started fundraising for Relay 2017 which will be held on 1/2 July.
