The young people of The Barclay Park Youth Pavilion have a freshly painted and decorated Youth Club thanks to the efforts of Aberdeen Foyer’s Prince’s Trust Team 35.
Each Prince’s Trust Team must decide on a project that will benefit their local community. Once a project has been identified, the team must then raise the necessary funds to ensure the project can be completed within an allotted three week timescale.
To raise the funds required, Team 35 organised a Quiz Night at The Clerkhill Inn, Peterhead.
Thanks to local businesses who donated prizes, and to those who came along on the night, Team 35 managed to raise over £500. With this money, the team were able to buy the paint and other materials needed to help them complete the project on time.
Prince’s Trust Team Leader, Tev Warrander, said: “Team 35 have done an excellent job taking on this project, they worked really hard and it shows.
“They had to come together as a team to make it happen and to ensure they completed it within the timescale we had.”
Youth Worker, Val Buchan, said: “The young people who use the pavilion were very excited about this project, they came up with ideas about what should be done and how it should look.
“When we were allowed back in after two weeks, the young people couldn’t believe the transformation. They all have a favourite room they like.
“The young people would like to thank Team 35 for all the hard work that went into it and to all their new equipment that other young people will enjoy for years to come.”
Team 35 and the young people will be holding an Open Day at the Pavilion from 12 noon until 4pm on Saturday, March 28, and would like to invite the community to come and see first hand the excellent work achieved by The Prince’s Trust.
The Prince’s Trust Team programme, delivered in Aberdeenshire by Aberdeen Foyer, is a 12 week personal development programme which aims to increase confidence, motivation and skills, and as a result enables young people to move into employment, education, training, volunteering or apprenticeships. During the course participants take part in various activities such as a two week work experience placement, community projects, a week long residential and the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications.
The next team will commence on Monday, May 18, and anyone interested in taking part can contact Tev on 07930 605887 or email email@example.com.
