Prayer Group to start meeting

Deer Parish Church Prayer Group is to start meeting again in Old Deer Church, the first meeting being on Wednesday, August 8, from 6.30 to 7.15pm. Old and new members will be welcome.

On Saturday, August 11, there is the Peterhead Harbour Open Day from 10.30am to 4pm, the location being the fish market. This annual event which benefits the local branch of the Deep Sea Fishermen’s Mission has been very well supported in previous years and it is hoped that Saturday’s effort will be a great success also.

There are to be stalls, displays, entertainment and ample refreshments throughout the day.

Then on Sunday, August 12, at 3pm there is the service of remembrance for fishermen lost in the course of their calling. This will be held at the Lido memorial and the Peterhead Salvation Army Band will provide the music.

A fitting end to a busy weekend is the Sunday Nightcap Service in the Mission itself at 8pm to which all are invited and welcome.

The Scottish Week teas held in the Old Parish Church during the Flower Festival raised a total of £1,600 and the Scottish Week Dance held in the Palace Hotel in memory of the late Reverend Pauline Thomson made £1,820 for Local Macmillan Cancer Support.

Thanks go to all who made both events such a huge success.

In St. Drostan’s Episcopal Church, Old Deer, on Sunday, August 12, there is to be a service of Matins commencing at 11am.

On Tuesday, August 14, St. Drostan’s Vestry will meet at Backhill at 7.30pm.

On Sunday, August 12, morning worship at 10.30am in Old Deer Church will be led by the Rev. Sheila Kirk and all are welcome.

Crèche facilities are available during the service. Teas will be served afterwards.

Then, from 2-6pm that day, there is a Church Family Barbecue in Aden Park. Anyone wishing to have a ticket should please contact Sarah Wilken by Friday, August 10, at the latest on 01771-624817. There is no ticket price but donations would be welcome to offset expenses.

Cruden Parish Church’s congregational walk is on Saturday, August 11, leaving Hatton Hall at 8am and going to Glenlivet.

St. Kane’s Church, New Deer, is having a Holiday Club from Monday, August 13, to Friday, August 17, in the Church Centre. This is for pre-school and primary school children – an adult would be required to stay with a pre-school child. The club runs from 10am to 12 noon. It is free and entry forms are available at the cafe or they can be picked up on the day.

“Food for Youth” Youth Club will meet in the Church Centre from Monday, August 13, to Friday, August 17, from 7-9pm.

The next visit to Peterhead and district by the Blythswood Care collecting vehicle has been arranged for Thursday, August 16.

The 31st annual service will be held in Logie Buchan Church on Sunday, August 19, commencing at 3pm. Refreshments will be available after the service in the Mission Hall at Auchmacoy.
