Banff and Buchan MP Dr Eilidh Whiteford and MSP Stewart Stevenson have secured a commitment from the Scottish Ambulance Service to review ambulance demand in the North East following concerns about response times.

The review will assess what additional resources or service improvements might be required to bring performance around response times to an acceptable standard.

Mr Stevenson and Dr Whiteford are set to discuss the findings of the report with Ambulance Service chiefs at a showdown meeting on October 17.

Mr Stevenson said: “An efficient and effective ambulance service is hugely important to communities in the North East and I am pleased that the Service has acknowledged the need to look at what needs to happen to get response times down to an acceptable level.”

Dr Whiteford added: “I accompanied ambulance personnel on one of their shifts very recently and I saw first-hand the invaluable service they provide to our communities.

“It is important that ambulance staff are backed up with appropriate resources and I hope that this report will lead to the necessary changes that need to be made to restore confidence in this vital service.”

Councillor Brian Topping, who chairs Fraserburgh’s community safety group, welcomed the news, commenting: “I commend Eilidh and Stewart for their assiduous efforts to have the Ambulance Service address this issue.

“This review is an important step forward in addressing any shortcomings that may have been identified.”
