The Capital Plan which paves the way for major new build programmes including schools, care homes and leisure facilities, has been approved by councillors.

The £887 million Capital Plan for 2014 – 27 was agreed at the full meeting of elected members at Woodhill House Council Chambers on Thursday, February 13.

It was the first time that the council’s Capital Plan had been considered alongside the Revenue Budget. This decision was made to emphasise the direct link between two of the council’s key financial plans.

It sets out the council’s ambitious strategic priorities for the next 15 years. Among those are a range of new school builds and major school improvements across Aberdeenshire, new care homes, family centres, community and sports facilities.

Speaking at committee, councillors praised the “absolutely fantastic” Capital Plan as “probably the most ambitious of any council in Scotland”, and welcomed the improvements it would bring for residents across Aberdeenshire and across the age spectrum.

New community campus facilities in Mearns, Ellon and Alford, care homes in Stonehaven and Inverurie and new primary schools including Drumoak, Kintore, Portlethen, Turriff, Inverurie and Kinellar are among the major construction projects included in the Capital Plan.

Two new children’s homes, a family centre at Inverurie and new leisure facilities at Banchory and Banff & Macduff are also included.
