A Buchan councillor has spoken of his delight following repair work to the A90 trunk road at the Invernettie Roundabout.
Peterhead South and Cruden councillor Tom Malone had previously contacted BEAR Scotland about the dangerous state of the road, but was told work wouldn’t commence there until at least 2018.
Speaking to the Buchanie, cllr Malone said: “I am very pleased but it is unfortunate that BEAR Scotland had to be chased up to carry out such essential works.
“It took a team effort to get the work done - Peterhead Community Council raised the issue last year, I then raised it with Aberdeenshire Continued from page 1
Council’s Director of Infrastructure who then wrote to BEAR and received an unsatisfactory response.
“I then wrote a strongly worded letter to BEAR and members of the community voiced their concerns.
“The Buchan Observer covered the story and we now have a result.”
Councillor Malone now plans to write to BEAR Scotland again, this time about the Invernettie Roundabout itself as he believes it is an an unacceptable state.
He explained: “It has the nickname ‘Bear Island’ and it is so untidy and unkempt.
“It is at the very heart of the Buchan Gateway and it gives a bad impression of the town for someone coming in from Aberdeen.
“The Head of Infrastructure wrote to BEAR last year at my request and they replied claiming to have carried out remedial work but I can personally vouch that they did not.”
Cllr Malone added: “Peterhead deserves better so I will personally be persuing the matter with BEAR Scotland.”
