A local businessman has announced that he is standing as an Independent candidate for the Peterhead North & Rattray ward in the upcoming local election on May 4.
Iain Sutherland wants to make a positive difference to the future of the place where he lives and works.
Mr Sutherland said: “You may know me from Something Special, a shop on Marischal Street, which I set up with my wife Elizabeth 15 years ago.
“I recently took on the role of Project Coordinator for ‘Rediscover Peterhead’. This business-led initiative can lead to an exciting transformation of the heart of Peterhead.
“Over the last eight months I have surveyed hundreds of business owners, with the community working together I can see great opportunities ahead for our town.
“I want to grasp these with both hands – and so here I am, putting myself forward to work tirelessly as your new independent local councillor.”
“I believe, as an independent, I can cut through the politics and get to the issues that affect our everyday lives.
“Things are beginning to change and there is a sense of enterprise in the town. With new shops and hotels opening, I would like to build on this recovery.
“I want a 21st century Town Centre that gives people a reason to visit. I’d like to attract the visitors that come to our Prison Museum into the town and the surrounding villages.
“I’ll work hard to make our town centre cleaner and safer. We can’t waste more time talking about our problems, let’s grasp the opportunities and get things done.”
