Airfield storage yard plan go-head

Buchan councillors will consider an application from Independent Oilfield Services (IOS) when they meet in Peterhead on Tuesday.

The firm wants full planning consent for the formation of a supply base, including provisions for warehousing, offices and a pipe storage yard, at Longside Airfield.

In a report to Tuesday’s meeting, planning chief Stephen Archer says the developments proposed represent further growth of the oil industry related pipe storage facilities which have grown incrementally over the past 18 to 24 months.

“The key planning issues are the principle of this use in a countryside location, consideration of any impact on existing airfield operations and technical matters related to access, contaminated land, neighbouring land uses and servicing of the site,” he said. “Should be consitions recommended by transport and roads development be added to the granting of the application, an adequate and safe access can be achieved.

“The planning service recommends the granting of this application as a departure from the local plan to provide re-use of brownfield land, job creation and wider economic development,” he added.
