The exciting new initiative at 2ReUse’s Skelton Street premises in Buchanhaven is now offering a wide range of upcycled products, shabby chic furniture and collectibles. And there’s also the opportunity to have a go yourself at reinventing an older piece of furniture.
2ReUse is all about recycling while diverting unwanted items from landfill – handling all manner of household items from furniture, bikes and small electrical items, to bric-a- brac, clothing and linen.
‘Be Inspired’ is firmly aimed at upcycling even more items by giving them a new lease of life - whether it’s a spot of sanding and varnishing, funky new paint jobs or glitzy new fixtures.
Manager Brenda Campbell explained: “We often have items donated that might not be quite in fashion at the moment, but through the shabby chic work our talented volunteers are creating amazing pieces which would grace any home – or garden.
“We have concentrated initially on smaller pieces – for example coffee tables, chairs and cabinets – but the sky really is the limit. We have a range of outdoor furniture which is ideal for displaying plants and flowers which have already been proving popular as we delivered them into the shop!”
The enterprise will also be accepting commissions and orders and can deliver them straight to your door.
Brenda added: “Ideally we are now looking to attract funding to enable us to employ a part-time trainer to pass on all the shabby chic skills to local folk and develop a hands-on crafting area for the wider community to enjoy. Meantime, there remains a huge passion for this type of product and we are looking forward to seeing plenty of local folk popping in to see our work.”
The 2ReUse manager is assisted by a small staff and a dedicated group of volunteers to operate across the Central Buchan and wider North-east catchment.
Operated by Peterhead Projects Limited, 2ReUse is the holder of two Green Apple Awards in bronze and gold which are given for innovative work in the community and the environment. The business works diligently to assure good quality items from a recycle and reuse aspect and to ensure excellent customer care. It has a volunteer-friendly award for supporting over 180 volunteers helping them get back into training and into employment.
