A Peterhead couple are celebrating their Diamond wedding anniversary by having a special family meal.
Alexander - or Alec, as he is affectionately known - and Elsie Mitchell marked 60 years of marriage on Monday, February 23.
To celebrate the milestone anniversary, the couple were due to have a meal with their family at the Palace Hotel on Sunday.
Alec is originally from Peterhead and Elsie is from Skene.
They met at the Peterhead Cottage Hospital when Alec had an accident with his thumb and Elsie was working there.
When they met, Alec was making arrangements to move to Australia.
Two years later Elsie joined Alec in New South Wales after she had completed her nursing training.
It was while in Australia Alec and Elsie had their first son, David.
After six and four years respectively, Alec and Elsie returned with their young son to Peterhead and the couple have lived there ever since.
Once they moved back to Peterhead, Alec and Elsie had two more sons - twins Alexander and James.
During his career, Alec was a joiner and served his time with Taylor Brothers.
He later took over the running of his father’s business.
Meanwhile, Elsie worked as a nurse at Peterhead Cottage Hospital.
The couple now have six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Alec and Elsie live in the same house that Alec has lived in since 1935 - apart from the six years when he was living in Australia.
Commenting on the anniversary, Elsie said: “I can’t quite believe it’s here.
“We’ve been very fortunate, we’ve had 60 good years.
“We’re looking forward to having a nice day.”
