Police Scotland have confirmed that their presence at Peterhead’s Buchan House will extend to Public Enquiry Service Assistants (PESAs), often referred to as Public Counter staff, between Buchan House’s opening hours Monday to Friday on a dedicated counter and not officers as suggested by a previous report in the Buchan Observer.
During evenings and weekends the public office at Merchant Street will continue to open as it currently does.
The PESAs will continue to be dedicated to the same role and delivery of service they currently provide at Merchant Street.
There will be no Police officers stationed at Buchan House with officers in Peterhead continuing to be based at Merchant Street.
They will however have access to a ‘touch down’ desk and office elsewhere within the Buchan House site.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We are extremely grateful to Aberdeenshire Council for their support in making this available to us and view this as an excellent opportunity by which to further enhance the productive and close working relationship we already have with many of the local authority services that operate from Buchan House.
“There are no plans to reduce the provision of Public Counter Services as a consequence of this change.
“The co-location of our PESAs within the Service Point at Buchan House provides greater opportunity for contact with Police Scotland staff at a convenient site within the Town centre and which many people will be familiar with and comfortable in attending,” they added.
