Vandals set fire to picnic benches in Aden Country Park
Picnic benches at Mintlaw’s Aden Country Park have been extensively damaged by vandals setting fires.
The damage was caused sometime between 4pm on Wednesday, June 23, and 7.20am the next morning.
PS Niall Mullen, from Peterhead Community Policing Team, said: “This was a deliberate act, directly impacting others being able to enjoy the outdoor facilities at the park.
"Not only does fire destroy these benches, they could have also caused injury to those who set or or caused it to spread in the park. It is vital to be fire aware. I encourage anyone who has any information in relation to this incident to contact the police."
Police can be contacted on 101 or via the Police Scotland website. Anonymous reports can be made to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Banff and Buchan MP David Duguid recently met Area Commander, Chief Inspector Jamie Harrison, to raise concerns about the recent spate of vandalism, including previous incidents ar the Fairy Woods in Aden Country Park.
Mr Duguid said: “We had a good discussion about the police response to these incidents and how to prevent further attacks.
“Chief Inspector Harrison and I urge all residents to report anti-social behaviour and vandalism to police where they see it – it is important that the police are informed to be able to tackle it.
“We also discussed a number of other matters of importance to my constituents including drug crime. I was pleased to hear that there has been a huge increase in successful enforcement in the last year through partnership with forces across the UK.”
