A distinguished resident of Peterhead, Miss Margaret Cassie, has died in her 88th year, writes Jack Webster.
A native of the Buchan village of Maud, Miss Cassie was the daughter of Mr and Mrs James Cassie of Coronation Cottages - and first proved her academic prowess at the village school and later at Peterhead Academy.
As a leading entrant to the Civil Service, she gained high position all the way from Peterhead to cities like Aberdeen and Coventry before retiring to Peterhead.
In her younger day she also made a name for herself as a ballroom dancer, unsurpassed throughout the North-east (I had the pleasure of being her dance partner).
If Strictly Come Dancing had been around in her day, she would have been a serious contender.
As a further hobby, Miss Cassie took to the hills and excelled once more as a mountaineer.
Her later years of ill-health were spent in Peterhead’s Wyndwell Nursing Home, where she died.
Miss Cassie remained unmarried and is survived by her sister Atholene and brother-in-law Sandy Ritchie, who live in Hatton.
