The Buchanhaven Heritage Society are celebrating after a generous donation from Peterhead’s Red Brick Theatre group.
Red Brick members performed at the Centre earlier in the year when the society held the Stage 1 official opening of the their phased refurbishment plan.
When the group announced they wanted to donate £2,000 to the society to help with future development it was welcomed with open arms and delight.
The Red Brick Theatre group are made up of young volunteers from the area who love to perform and after their most recent performance of “Oliver” the cheque was presented and the society will now consider how the generous donation will be used.
As the Society starts to plan events for the end of 2016 it is hoped the theatre company will add colour to the festive period at the official switch on of the Christmas lights which the whole area can enjoy and benefitted from last year.
Alex Geddes, chair of the society, said: “ We are delighted and overwhelmed by the generosity of the Red Brick Theatre group and it is difficult to find words to express our gratitude.
“This will go a long way towards supporting the refurbishment of the Centre and delighted to see the support coming from these young folk that give so much to their community.
“They are an inspiration to the community and their achievements are certainly praiseworthy and a lesson to many on how community works.”
Julie Cordiner, spokesperson for the Red Brick Theatre, said: “Over the last 10 years we have donated over £16,000 to local charities and projects, but we couldn’t do it without our volunteer helpers and the community supporting us.
“We support our community through our productions, by keeping children off the street and giving them a sense of purpose while having fun and performing, we are looking forward to working with the Buchanhaven Heritage Society again as we look towards another eventful year.”
