A Mintlaw Academy pupil recently held a family fun day to raise money for a World Challenge trip to Tanzania next summer.

Stuart Kemp, who is currently in sixth year, arranged the event at the Mormond Inn, Strichen on Saturday, July 11.

At the fundraiser there was face paints, a barbecue, bouncy castles and a home bakes stall.

Later on in the day there was a live band entertaining crowds called ‘The Colours’.

Overall, the fun day was a great success and a fantastic total of £1,067.97 was raised.

Speaking to the Buchanie, Stuart said: “I’d like to thank the Mormond Inn for allowing me the pleasure to hold the event there.

“I’d also like to thank my family and friends who supported me and also all the local businesses who donated raffles, and lastly everyone who turned up to the fun day to support me even though the weather was a bit doom and gloom at the start.”

Mintlaw Academy first decided to set up the expedition to Tanzania through World Challenge last summer.

Stuart and his fellow Mintlaw Academy pupils will go on this expedition next year.

During the one month expedition, the pupils will be tasked with a week long trek and will also help the local community with essential work including building an open-aired school and also water pumps which will supply the community with fresh water.

In order to go on the once-in-a-lifetime expedition, Stuart needs to raise £4,000 and decided to hold a family fun day in order to help him reach his target.
