Popular Peterhead mechanic dies aged 46

A well-loved Peterhead mechanic turned businessman has died at the age of 46, leaving behind his grieving partner and stepdaughter.

Peterhead Motors boss Charles Duncan, known to friends and family as Jock, died following a heart attack last week.

Carol Lacey, Mr Duncan’s partner for 15 years, told the Buchanie: “He was my boss-and he was the love of my life.Not many people have the opportunity to say that.”

She added: “He was such a good, good man.”

Since Mr Duncan’s death there has been an outpouring of grief and emotion from the people of Peterhead with hundreds of cards and flowers sent to his home.

Mourners are expected to line the streets on Wednesday to celebrate the life of a man who “did everything for everybody” and bid him a final farewell.

Ms. Lacey said: “Everyone wants to do him so proud now, because he did everything for everybody. You don’t realise until something like this happens what a community we are.”

Along with the cards and flowers sent to his home, mourners have also left messages at his garage and posted tributes online via social media.

Megan Lacey, who considered Mr Duncan her step-father, said: “People have left an unbelievable amount of messages, and it may sound bad but we’ve had to actually hold back on the flowers because we’ve received so many.”

Mr Duncan’s funeral will take place on Wednesday and Carol Lacey has asked friends and family to join them in celebrating his life.

Mr Duncan’s family also thanked the three trained first -aiders who tried to save his life, allowing his loved ones an opportunity to say goodbye.

The medical staff at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary were also thanked for caring for him in his final four days.Mr Duncan is survived by Carol, Megan, his mother Mary and his two brothers David and Iain.
