Police initiative in Buchan area targets anti-social drivers
A road safety initiative – tackling issues including speeding and anti-social driving – has been launched in the Buchan area.
Operation Oakham is in response to a number of concerns regarding driver behaviour being raised with the police.
The initiative is a local operation and involves high visibility and intelligence-led patrols with the aim of proactively addressing road safety through a combination of education and enforcement.
It also includes speed checks by officers from the Peterhead and Mintlaw Community Policing Teams.
Sergeant Wayne Bedford, from the Peterhead Community Policing Team, said: “A number of concerns have been raised by the local communities relating to speeding within the towns and villages of the Buchan area and this directly relates to our commitment to improve road safety.
"Acting on these concerns, we have launched Operation Oakham with the aim of proactively tackling road safety and anti-social driving within these communities.
"Our focus with Operation Oakham is on making our roads and communities safer.
"This will also be prevalent around schools with pupils returning to the classrooms as the lockdown measures ease, which are an area of concern for many parents and members of the public."
If anyone has any information relating anti-social driving, this can be reported to the police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
