Peterhead Relay for Life 2016 was “amazing”

Peterhead Relay for Life chairperson Lorraine Coleman has expressed her delight following another successful year.

She said: “£200,000 was raised for Cancer Research UK and this was well beyond our expectations!

“The spirit shown by everyone was outstanding! Our 65 survivors and 54 carers started the 24 hours and were cheered on by the 31 teams and the public before they went in for a lovely reception, they truly are an inspiration to everyone.

“The teams then took over doing a walk (not a run - some mistake us with Race for life) and they kept someone on the track for 24 hours.

“The teams had great fun throwing themselves into the activities set by the fantastic Oompa Loopa Entertainment team!

“The Candle of Hope ceremony was respected by over 700 people from the Relay and the public – this was very emotional as loved ones who have been lost to cancer were remembered and those going through cancer were encouraged.

“I’d really like to sincerely thank everyone who made this Relay so memorable and such a success – our very dedicated committee, teams, volunteers, sponsors, CRUK supporters, the public and all who donated or helped in any way.

“We had the added pleasure of having friends from two of our three Relay twins from around the world – Giovi, Therese and Jo from Gibraltar, and Mel from Victor Harbor, Australia – they were a delight and a great help!

“Our other twin is in Pottstown USA – they were with us via Skype! This supported our theme of the Relay “One World , One Hope!”

Lorraine added: “To the community of the north east of Scotland thank you so much on behalf of Cancer Research UK – you have played your part in helping to save lives!”
