A young Peterhead writer held a book signing at the town’s WHSmith on Thursday as she met fans of her first book.

Estelle Maskame (18), was signing copies of her debut Young Adult novel Did I Mention I Love You, describing the experience as “exciting and scary”.

Speaking to the Buchanie, Estelle said: “I don’t really feel like it’s me sitting here.”

The teenage author signed her first book deal with Black and White publishing in December 2014 and her work has been flying off the shelves ever since.

Estelle said: “It has been crazy. I just feel like it’s not happening to me but I’m really grateful that it is.”

Did I mention I Love You is part of a trilogy of novels that the young Estelle started writing when she was only 13 years of age.

Publishing them herself on the internet via Whatpad the Blue Toon native had racked up more than four million views over the three books before Black and White got in contact.

Since signing the book deal Estelle has rewritten the online versions, making them more mature.

She said: “They’re a lot better this time round.”

Estelle’s parents looked proudly on as their daughter signed book after book for the waiting queue.

Fenella Maskame, Estelle’s mother, said: “We’re delighted with everything that’s happening and the way the book signing has been going.

“It’s just been amazing”

WHSmith store manager Alan McFarlane said: “We’re delighted to support her.

“The local community is what WHSmith is all about and the turnout has been great.”

The second part of Estelle’s trilogy will be released in September.
