Theatre Modo have been named Best of Buchan at the Inspiring Aberdeenshire Awards.
The award ceremony organised by Aberdeenshire Council took place at Haddo House on Friday, June 17 to celebrate the work of people in the area who support their communities.
Theatre Modo take a creative, ground-breaking approach by harnessing circus skills to help young people to improve their life chances, confidence and self-esteem while celebrating and creating the culture and community of the region.
Commenting on the win, Theatre Modo’s creative director, Martin Danziger, said: “This is such a huge boost for the young people involved.
“Last year we invested 6,000 hours in volunteering time and it’s wonderful for their hard work and passion to be recognised in this way.”
He added: “We hope this will go towards assisting our funding to help us continue into the future.”
The annual event is in its fourth year and recognises the achievements of residents and staff and is attended by councillors, officers and volunteers with local performers also taking to the stage.
Council Co-Leader Councillor Richard Thomson said: “Inspiring Aberdeenshire gives us the chance to celebrate the groups and individuals who have gone out of their way to help others and it was a hard task choosing winners as everyone who was nominated deserves a trophy.”
Over 160 nominations were received for the awards and other winners included people who provided community information and support during flooding in the area at the start of the year and a pupil who raised thousands of pounds for a cancer charity inspired by his brother who is undergoing treatment.
The finalists of the new Doric Award, open specifically for people promoting and celebrating the local language, were also honoured with Inverallochy School taking the top spot.
