Online fundraising site justgiving have announced that the page set up for Catherine Melrose was one of the most successful of 2014.
Catherine’s page, which is currently owned by her mum Samantha, is in the top one per cent of fundraisers for 2014.
Samantha was notified of the achievement via an email as she explained: “It came totally out of the blue and I was blown away.
“When you think about how many people fundraise on justgiving, it is amazing.”
She added: “Catherine would be delighted to hear this as she started it all.
“When she was first diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia she decided to share that with people and everyone helped out from there.”
The justgiving page was set up shortly after Catherine’s diagnosis with money raised going to Anthony Nolan.
As the Buchanie went to print, the total amount raised on the page so far is just over £81,000.
The total includes money raised at various charity events organised by Catherine including her successful Ladies Night that raised £9,000.
The last event Catherine organised was an Aberdeen Dolphin Hunt that was held in August and managed to raise £1,010.
Samantha said: “We had around 200 people meet us in Duthie Park and they set off with their checklists to find the dolphins.
“It was a lovely but difficult day for us.”
The page is still open to donations and Samantha explained the reason why: “The one promise we made to her was that we would keep up with the fundraising.
“We have been very lucky that various people have chosen to organise different fundraisers for Catherine.”
Should anyone wish to donate to Anthony Nolan, they can do so via the justgiving page at www.justgiving.com/samantha-melrose.
