Fundraisers net £6,586 for Shelter Boxes

A vintage charity ploughing match jointly hosted by the Banff & Buchan Vintage Tractor Club and the Rotary Club of Peterhead was held at Auchlee Farm, Longside recently, courtesy of Neil Godsman

A beautiful day helped to make the event a great success with 44 ploughers from all over the North East taking part and the overall cup winner was Gordon Hepburn who also took first prize in the Class B Double Furrow section.

The other winners were:

Class A Double Furrow - 1 Allan Senic, 2 John Goodfellow, 3 Gordon Hector; Class B Double Furrow - 1 Gordon Hepburn, 2 Gordon Davidson, 3 John Mutch; Single Furrow - 1 Rob Paterson, 2 A. Davidson, 3 J. Maclay; Trailing Ploughs - 1 D. Stewart, 2 J.McPherson, 3 Gordon Hepburn Snr.

A cup for the most money raised by sponsorship was presented to Abby Turriff, who raised £344.

The concert on Sunday at the Palace Hotel by the Manson Grant Trio with Brandon McPhee and compered by Eddie Rose was enjoyed by more than 200 and hailed by many as ‘the best one yet’.

The magnificent sum raised by the two events was £6,586, and will be used to buy Shelter Boxes to help in disaster areas throughout the world and distributed to many local good causes.

The organisers have expressed thanks to all who gave donations of money and prizes, with special mention to Masson Glennie and SBP Accountants for their generosity. Sincere thanks were also given to The Palace Hotel, R. A Coutts and Son, T.A Ritchie, West End Butchers, Russell Gauld, Colin Sievwright,Brian Gillanders, Strachans of Peterhead, Morrisons Supermarket, The Hame Bakery, Eric Mallarkey, John Smith & Sons, Robert Emslie Jeweller, Finnie 4x4, Jim McIntosh, Wallace Caravans, Peterhead F.C, The Holiday Inn Glasgow, Robert Lovie and Neil Godsman.

Special thanks were given to Duncan Forbes and Eric Mallarkey of the tractor club for all their hard work prior to and during the 
ploughing match.

Raffle winners were as follows: 1st Prize of £250 went to A. Duncan, 2nd prize of the Corporate Day at Phd FC. to K. Gerrard, 3rd Prize of a Hudl Tablet to K. Willox and 4th prize of the Holiday Inn voucher to G.Bruce. A total of 32 other prize winners have all been notified and received their prizes.

Finally, thanks to all who came along to both events and to all Rotarians and friends who lent a hand and contributed to the success of the weekend.
