Pupils at Peterhead’s Anna Ritchie School will enjoy a football-filled autumn, after local MP Eilidh Whiteford donated six Peterhead FC season tickets.

Dr Whiteford made the donation during the Anna Ritchie School’s assembly, having received the tickets from betting chain Ladbrokes following Gamble Aware Week, which ran this year from July 22 to July 28.

Eilidh also took the opportunity to formally present the school with its Green Flag, awarded to schools taking a proactive role in improving the environment.

Dr Whiteford said: “I would, firstly, like to thank Ladbrokes for this absolutely fantastic prize, and for the efforts the chain is making to encourage responsible gambling.

“I would also like to pay tribute to the staff and pupils at Anna Ritchie, and congratulate them on achieving their third Eco-flag.

“The Peterhead FC tickets represent a great way for the kids to enjoy sport, and I’m sure the Peterhead fans at Anna Ritchie will make the most of the opportunity.”

Alexis Simpson, marketplace manager for Ladbrokes in north East Scotland, said: “These tickets are going to an absolutely brilliant cause - if the kids can see Peterhead play, that’s fantastic.”

Acting co-head at the school, Sharon Ferguson, added: “We’re absolutely delighted to have received these tickets, and we will be working closely with the Parent Council to get the best use.

“We’re also hugely pleased that Dr Whiteford could award our Green Flag Award.”
