A 12-year-old boy from Gardenstown has released his third album of gospel music.
Matthew James McKay released his first album when he was 10, another aged 11 and has now released a third album, called ‘You Raise Me Up’.
As well as recording music, Matthew James also performs at care homes and other venues. He made five performances during the recent October holidays.
Commenting, Matthew James’ mum, Roseanne said: “He really enjoys it. We’re very proud of him, he puts in a lot of hard work.
“Matthew James has enjoyed singing from an early age. He first sang in public when he was six or seven with Michael Harcus who is a gospel singer.”
Roseanne explained to the Herald that Matthew James’ talents were first discovered when he was in the audience of the Moray Male Voice Choir. The conductor of the choir, John Buchanan, heard Matthew James singing and asked if he would take part in future. As well as singing, the 12-year-old is learning to play the guitar and also Grade 5 piano.
Recently, Matthew James visited Ireland, where he sang at a drive-in church at Port Rush. The performance was one of five he made during the visit.
Matthew James already has bookings in Ireland and Glasgow for next year, as well as a DVD coming out in the spring.
His third album is on sale at the Faith Mission Bookshop in Peterhead, the Fishermen’s Mission in Peterhead and The Gift Boutique in Fraserburgh.
