BUCHAN councillors recently approved a tender from Miller Roofing Ltd, for the upgrade of a roof covering at Mintlaw Academy.

Members of the Buchan area committee were told that the project will cost £177,895.16 inclusive of Property costs of £10,070.00 - the lowest tender submitted.

The roof to the school comprises various flat roof sections at different levels with perimeter mansards to the majority of these sections inclusive of the area involved with this contract.

Over the years since construction of the school the roof covering has been upgraded to the various sections.

The roof covering to be upgraded in this contract is the last area of original roof covering. The existing bituminous felt and thermal insulation will be removed back to the structural roof deck.

The works comprise upgrading roof covering inclusive of a vapour barrier, 100mm thermal insulation board, single layer PVC roofing membrane and all guttering to affected area.

Due to the damage to the existing, repair is not possible due to the gutter type being no longer available.

The new material which will be used for the roof is expected to have a life expectancy of 25 years and councillors approved the straight forward tender application last week.
