North East Liberal Democrat MSP Alison McInnes has praised the staff of Kirkburn Court in Peterhead after visiting the care home as part of National Care Home Open Day.
National Care Home Open Day takes place every year and its aim is to encourage care homes across the UK to open their doors to their local communities to establish better links and promote cooperation.
Mrs McInnes met general manager, David Garland, Gwen Smith the head of elderly frail unit, and a number of other staff and residents during the visit.
Afterwards, Mrs McInnes said: “I would like to thank the staff and residents of Kirburn Court care home who made me feel very welcome.
“The staff have made the care home a warm and homely environment for the residents. It is clear that they work incredibly hard to provide a crucial service for the elderly in our community and their families.
“Too often care home staff are unsung heroes. The open day was a chance to thank some of them for supporting elderly citizens who can no longer manage in their own home.
“Despite the importance of their work, many care home staff do feel under-appreciated.
“I will continue to highlight this and the other issues local care homes are facing at the Scottish Parliament and with the Scottish Government,” she added.
