The Peterhead lifeboat was launched today (Thursday) following an emergency call from the Aberdeen Marine and Coastguard Agency.
Lifeboat crew were called out at 2.20pm to a report of a possible body in the sea off Collieston.
A coastguard official and member of the public on scene identified the ‘body’ as a buoy with seaweed attached to it.
As a result the lifeboat was stood down, prior to its arrival on scene, and returned to its berth at 2.53pm.
The call is classed as being a false alarm with good intent.
