People around the world will be joining forces for World Cancer Day on Wednesday, February 5 - helping in the fight against cancer.
The chances are you probably know someone who has been affected by cancer – a family member, a loved one, a friend, and/or a colleague.
Nowadays nearly half of us will get cancer in our lifetime.
So on Wednesday, February 4, World Cancer Day, a call is being made on the nation to unite.
It’s only a small gesture, but if everyone joins forces, we will bring forward the day when all cancers are beaten.
The Relay For Life Peterhead will be doing their part on this day too. It has organised a table at Morrisons in Peterhead to help raise much needed funds to help bring forward a cure for cancer.
Mhairi Stephen, of the Peterhead Relay for Life Committee, told the Buchanie: “We would appreciate any support in helping our cause where folk can donate £2 for a wrist band or enter our raffle for a great hamper prize.”
Folk are also being encouraged to enter a team into this year’s Relay for Life Peterhead, which will take place over the weekend of July 4 and 5.
On the day of Relay For Life Peterhead you can expect a celebratory mix of music, games, entertainment, food, fundraising and perhaps a few surprises!
While the event is in full swing, members of each team will take turns to walk around the track for the duration of the Relay. All events are overnight as this marks the fact that cancer never sleep
“We welcome new teams and survivors to open the event in a lap of honour,” added Mhairi.
The next team meeting will be held on Thursday, February 12 at 7.30pm at the Buchanhaven Hearts club on the town’s Victoria Road.
