PETERHEAD hotel worker Morag Woods recently ran the ConocoPhillips 5k at Balmoral last month and raised £221 for the Stroejk Unit at Aberdeen Royal Informary.

Morag (39), who had only taken up jogging recently and who had never taken part in a run before, raised the money to thank the unit for saving her father’s life.

“My father, James, had a stroke on New Year’s Eve and was rushed from Peterhead to the Stroke Unit and treated there for a week,” explained Morag.

“I am so grateful to the staff for his treatment and he is making good progress.”

Mr Woods praised the care he received and his other daughter Vicky added: “We are all very proud of Morag for running and raising the funds and we hope it will encourage others to support NHS Grampian.”

Stroke specialist Dr Mary Joan Macleod, who accepted the cheque, said she greatly appreciated the family coming from Peterhead to make the donation in person and that the funds will be put towards patient comfort.
