A funding boost for Light Up Peterhead could see the town’s festive display take a step nearer fruition.
A very small group of only four local residents are determined to raise enough money to at least pay for the same number of lights to be erected as last year - and hopefully more.
Their efforts have been boosted by Business Improvement District (BID), steering group who have agreed to bolster the funding by £1,000 in match funding.
BID co-ordinator, Iain Sutherland, attended a meeting of the Light Up Peterhead group last week and informed them that a one-off grant of up to £1,000 would be available from Peterhead Business Forum Choose Peterhead.
Commenting on the funding, group member Phyllis Mundie told the Buchanie: “If £1,000 is raised then the same amount will be granted from BID for the lights.
“This would be a great funding boost towards our target of £10,000 as each individual feature costs £100 and larger cross street features cost £200.
“These costs include storage, maintenance, erection and dismantling of the lights,” she added.
If anyone would like to donate money to the cause, a JustGiving page has been set up, or you can donate via the numerous collection tins which are now in several local shops.
Alternatively, if you would like to join the gorup, head along to the next meeting in the town’s Albert Hotel on Monday, October 24, at 7.30pm.
