A FINAL call has gone out to the Buchan community for entries to this weekend’s Peterhead Running Festival & Fun Day.

The second annual event takes place on Sunday (September 16) at Catto Park playing fields and running track.

Peterhead Jogscotland, in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council, hopes to build on the success of last year’s inaugural Peterhead Running Festival which attracted more than 600 participants.

Jogscotland leader Stephen Bruce told the Buchanie: “With the support from Shell as the main sponsor for the second year in succession, this year’s event will again include the Shell School Fun Runs - in partnership with Aberdeenshire Active Schools.

“A free event, last year the Shell School Fun Runs attracted over 400 school children from 36 schools throughout Aberdeenshire. “

All pupils taking part will receive a free medal, goodie bag, and the school with the greatest percentage of pupils per head of school roll, and the school with the most pupils along on the day, will each receive a £300 cheque to spend on sports equipment.

Other events planned on the day will include the Shell 5km run, jog or walk which attracted more than 100 participants last year. With the very successful Peterhead Half Marathon which is in its third year, plus Connie’s craft stalls, a children’s play area featuring bouncy castle and face painting, plus entertainment and tasty treats will ensure a fun day for for all the family.

Stephen continued: “All proceeds from the festival will go the Scottish Spina Bifida Association and other local charities. After the success of last year’s First Peterhead Running Festival we are really thrilled and honoured that Shell has once again decided to be our main sponsor.

“Without their generous sponsorship it would be impossible to put on an event of this scale in Peterhead.

“We hope that people of all ages will be inspired to get more active after watching the Olympics, and take part in the festival. All are welcome from the five-year-old primary one pupil who can take part in Shell School Fun Runs to grannies and granddads who can walk, jog or even run the Shell 5km.”

Registration is still open for all the events visit for more details, or you can register at Peterhead Football Club on Wednesday night at 7-8pm or Saturday 15th at Catto Park Pavilion 9am-12 noon.
