Did you know that loneliness is as bad for our health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day?
It is twice as harmful for us as obesity and is associated with increased rates of heart disease and dementia. It also has a destructive impact on our quality of life.
This is the UK’s first ever Befriending Week, which is an opportunity to celebrate the work of volunteer befrienders everywhere.
COMPANIONS Befriending Scheme works with people who experience mental ill health in Peterhead, Fraserburgh, Banff, Turriff, and the surrounding rural areas, and volunteer befrienders from all corners of the community
Befriending Manager, Flora Todd says; ‘We would like to thank our brilliant volunteers for supporting 34 lonely people over the past year’.
“For some people our volunteers are often the only person that visits who hasn’t been paid to, someone who has the time to listen because they have chosen to be there. As well as being a listening.”
