IT’s that time of year again - time to sign up for this summer’s Cancer Research UK Relay for Life Peterhead.
Last year 16 teams raised an incredible £150,500 for Cancer Research UK, the second time in a row over £150,000, and this year proves to be even better.
The weekend of July7-8 is set for Cancer Research UK’s Relay For Life in Peterhead which is now the only event in the UK to have raised over £100,000, not just in two consecutive years, but now three. Relay For Life is a unique, fun, 24-hour team fundraising event. It is a brilliant community and family event that celebrates life and honours those affected by cancer.
Local teams are made up of family, friends, work colleagues, schools, clubs and organisations, it is open to all ages, male and female. Teams of 8-15 people pitch their tents, camp overnight, and take it in turns to walk around the track throughout the 24 hours.
There is lots of entertainment, including fancy dress laps, tug of war, music, Relay’s Got Talent, Mr and Mrs, obstacle course, live performances and prizes for the Best Dressed Teams and Best Dressed Tents amongst other competitions.
The committee is also encouraging cancer survivors to take part in the Survivors’ Lap of Honour which kickstarts the 24 hours.
Event chair Angie Shearer said: “The pastseven years organising Relay For Life in Peterhead have been the most amazing years. I have met so many inspirational teams and survivors that are so dedicated to raising money for Cancer Research UK to save lives.
“I am really excited for this year’s event, but also sad that it will be the last event I organise. However, I really hope that we will be able to form a new committee in Peterhead to take on the organisation for 2013.”
To register go to www.cancerresearchuk.org/relay, then search for the Peterhead event. If you are interested in volunteering or being a part of the new Relay For Life committee for 2013, go along to the team meeting on Thursday, March 22 at Buchanhaven Hearts Club from 7.30pm.
