Final in series of Lent studies this Wednesday

The final meeting in the series of Peterhead Churches’ Lent studies takes place on Wednesday, March 20, in the Old Parish Church when the subject is “Living in the Hope of the Promised Land”.

The start at 6.15pm is a bring and share meal but those unable to attend then will be welcome for the study session itself commencing at 7pm.

Deer Parish Church Prayer Group meets in Old Deer Church on Wednesday, March 20, from 6.30-7.15pm.

St. Andrew’s Parish Church Guild is having a Guild Night on Wednesday, March 20, at 7.30pm.

Peterhead Methodist Church Sisterhood will be given an update on the work of the Leprosy Mission at their meeting on Wednesday, March 20, at 7.15pm. All ladies are very welcome.

Then on Saturday, March 23, the Sisterhood will be having a Buttery Morning in the back hall from 10am-12 noon. Admission is £2 and all are welcome.

The Peterhead Festival of Gospel Male Voice Praise is on Saturday evening, March 23, in the Baptist Church, King Street, with community hymn singing at 6.30pm and the programme starting at 6.45pm. The Rev. Dr. Abi Ngunga of Peterhead St. Andrew’s Church is the guest speaker and chairman, and the musical item guest soloist is Gudmund Johannesson from Aberdeen.

Admission is free. A freewill missionary offering will be uplifted during the evening.

The Soup and Sweet lunch on behalf of Christian Aid held in Peterhead Old Parish Church on Saturday, March 9, raised the sum of £615, and thanks go to all who supported this worthy cause.

On Saturday, March 23, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Merchant Street, is holding an Easter Buttery Morning with sales tables from 10am – 12 noon. Admission is £2.

Cruden Parish Church “Messy Church” meets in Hatton Hall on Thursday, March 21, at 3.15pm.

On Friday, March 22, a Whist/Beetle Drive arranged by Deer Parish Church will be held in the Kemp Hall, Old Deer, at 7pm for 7.30pm. Refreshments will be served and the cost is £2.50 per person. Raffle prizes would be welcomed.

On Sunday, March 24, morning worship for Palm Sunday will be held in Old Deer Church and led by the Rev. Sheila Kirk, the service commencing at 10.30am. The Sunday School meets as usual and teas will be served afterwards.

From Monday, March 25, to Good Friday, March 29, a series of short, informal Holy Week services will be held each evening in Old Deer Church at 7.30pm.

On Thursday, March 28, there will be an informal Sacrament of Communion Service. Everyone is most warmly invited to any of the services during this week.

St. Drostan’s Episcopal Church, Old Deer, is having a Family Service for Palm Sunday, March 24, commencing at 11am.

Then on Maundy Thursday, March 28, at 7pm the Eucharist will be celebrated in St. Peter’s Church.

Cruden Parish Church will have a Palm Sunday Service on Sunday, March 24, at 10am. There will be a half hour service each day in Holy Week in the Church at 7pm, with an informal celebration of Holy Communion on Good Friday.

Cruden Guild meets on Monday, March 25, when Dr. Gavin Packham will talk on “Pre-hospital Emergencies”. Cruden Church Walking Group’s first walk of the season is from Udny to Ellon, leaving the Church Hall at 11.30am.

Peterhead Old Parish Church Senior Ladies’ Fellowship will meet in the upstairs hall on Monday, March 25, at 2pm with Mr. Johnston as the speaker.

During Holy Week, three evening talks are to be given on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 25-27 inclusive all at 7.30pm, the theme being “The Power of Jesus’ Blood”. The venue is Peterhead St. Andrew’s Church, Queen Street. The Rev. Dr. Abi Ngunga and his congregation give an open invitation to attend these gatherings which will be shared by Abi and his minister friend, the Rev. James McMillan, from the neighbouring Congregational Church.

There is the opportunity to learn and experience something of this remarkable power. Please note also that on Saturday, March 30, at 7.30pm there will be a special concert entitled “He Lives”. Some senior and former pupils of Peterhead Academy, also some drawn from groups within the church itself will be involved. Tea/coffee will be provided each evening and all are welcome.

The Peterhead group of the Church of Scotland wish it to be known that the following united services have been arranged – Maundy Thursday, March 28, Communion Service in St. Fergus Parish Church at 7.30pm.

On Friday, March 29, a service for Good Friday in Peterhead Trinity Church at 7.30pm.

Peterhead Baptist Church Senior Citizens’ Fellowship will meet on Thursday, March 21, at 2.15pm when the welcome guests are Jim and Moira Givan, Longmanhill.
