A Newfoundland dog from Peterhead needs to undergo £14,000 worth of surgery to free it from the pain it has suffered since it was a puppy.
Big Bill has already had one operation and needs two more to relieve it from the condition that has plagued him since he was three months old.
Now nearly six, Bill was re-homed by Toon couple Vicky and Stevie Delgatty who noticed there was something troubling their new pet.
Vicky said: “We noticed that there was a problem with his back legs and we took him to the vet the next day.”
The vet informed Vicky and Stevie that Bill had problems with his hip and also knee ligament damage.
Having already undergone one surgery for £7,000 Bill needs two more that cost £3,500 each.
Despite the massive cost involved the Delgattys are positive it is the right thing to do.
Vicky said: “We just feel that it is such a shame and we want to help Bill as much as possible.
“We would do it for a kid so why not for a dog.”
Performing the Bill’s surgery is Television’s Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick , the only vet able to perform the operation in the whole of the UK.
Vicky said: “He told us that he would not operate on a dog unless he thought it was worth it.
Unbeknownst to the Delgattys Vicky’s cousin Shan Martin had started an online fundraising campaign to help pay for Bill’s operations.
Ms. Martin has asked people to donate towards the £14,000 bill with whatever they can.
Vicky said: I just want to thank my cousin who has set this up all on her own accord.”
