Pupils from Buchanhaven School have come out tops in the annual Peterhead Rotary Club Schools Quiz for the third time in a row.
The team of David Buchan, Jenna Hurhangee, Kyle Garnsey-Bruce, Ryan Slessor and Abby Irvine took the title after scoring 112 points - five more than their nearest rivals.
The quiz night, which is open to primary school pupils from P6/7, was held at the town’s Palace Hotel on Tuesday, March 23.
A total of nine teams from local schools and two teams of reserves participated in the event.
Buchanhaven beat off a strong challenge from runners-up Clerkhill Hurricane, who scored 107 points, with their second team, Clerkhill Classics, taking third spot with 105 points.
The rest of the results were as follows:
Dales Park (104 points), Buchanhaven Team 1 (104 points), Reserves Team 1 (102 points), Boddam (94 points), Peterhead Central (86 points), Meethill Wonders (87 points), Meethill Wizards (80 points) and Reserves Team 2 (78 points).
The Rotary Club expressed thanks to Mick and Hilary Gordon from the Rotary Club of Ellon for presenting an entertaining quiz, which was greatly enjoyed by all the pupils and their supporters.
Thanks were also extended to main sponsor John Johnson of Northern Platforms and Stagings, Robert Emslie Jewellers for providing the trophy, medals and certificates for all pupils, and the Palace Hotel staff for their much appreciated assistance on the night.
The raffle proceeds of £200 was presented to Hilary by Liz Oates, president of the Peterhead club for her First Steps Himalayas project in Nepal. Thanks were expressed to Rotary members and friends for the generous donations of raffle prizes and their help on the evening.
Buchanhaven Team 2 now progress to the next round at Meldrum Academy on April 29, where they will compete against the winning teams from all over the district and we wish them every success.
