The Scottish Seafood Association (SSA) and the Peterhead and Fraserburgh Fish Processor Association (PFFPA) recently opened their doors to the first training course held at their new premises in Farmers Lane Peterhead.

Staff from Fish Processing companies across Aberdeen city and shire attended the Intermediate HACCP course, where they learned how to write and manage food safety HACCP plans.

Working in Partnership with DM Training, the Association responded to requests from industry to run the course.

Will Clark, chairman of the SSA and PFFPA, commented: “The first course was a great success with really great feedback from all delegates.

“We are now working on a training programme for the next few months and due to demand we will be running another intermediate HACCP Course, as well as Basic Food Hygiene and Basic HACCP, which are Royal Environmental Health Institute for Scotland Accredited.

“We will also be adding Health and Safety Courses to the programme as well as a series of short courses designed for small to medium-sized businesses to make the most of the web navigation, content marketing, search engine optimisation and social media.”

The association has plans to add to the training programmes on offer over the next few months to meet industry needs and in addition is helping a number of seafood companies with food safety and quality systems.

The team at the association have years of experience in the sector and are well placed to provide support services to assist with a wide range of business needs, as well as the training.

Companies represented on this first course were Fraserburgh Seafoods, Youngs, Fraserburgh Freezing and Cold storage, Laeso and Nolan Seafoods.

Jason Jack from Fraserburgh Seafoods commented: “The new Scottish Seafood Association premises is well equipped to provide a great course.”

Jodie Summers from Fraserburgh Freezing and Cold storage added: “It was a fantastic course and everything was done really well.”
