PETERHEAD student Chloe Hepburn (19), is on cloud nine after completing an HND in Travel and Tourism at Aberdeen College and finding a job in her dream industry.
Chloe has always had a passion for travelling and meeting new people. When she left Peterhead Academy after her fifth year, she knew that a conventional nine-to-five office job wasn’t for her.
On investigating her options, an NC in Travel and Tourism leading to an HND at Aberdeen College caught her eye, so she applied.
She said: “I knew that there was also an option to go straight into third year of a degree course at the end of the HND which was an added bonus.”
On completing the NC, Chloe progressed to HND level. She said: “I really enjoyed both courses, particularly learning about new subjects I hadn’t had the opportunity to study before.”
Near the end of her course, Chloe’s lecturer told her class that Servisair had been in touch with some job opportunities at Aberdeen airport. Unfortunately, Chloe hadn’t yet passed her driving test and due to living in Peterhead, wasn’t able to commit to working shifts in Aberdeen.
However, a few months later, having passed her driving test, Chloe used her initiative and contacted Servisair to see if any posts were now available and was delighted to find that there were! She has now been working in the Servisair lounge at Aberdeen airport for more than two months.
She said: “Not being able to drive was holding me back as there was no easy way to get from Peterhead to the airport. Now I’ve passed my test, it is no problem to get there for my shifts.”
Chloe is enjoying meeting all the customers who check into the lounge and is happy to stay where she is to see where the job takes her in the short term. Longer term, her dream is to work as cabin crew and travel the world.
