A group of Peterhead Academy pupils have taken action to try and change the school’s negative reputation.
The Senior Pupils Marketing Team was created at the start of the current school year and aims to promote the school in a positive light.
Team member Katie Daniel said: “We looked at other schools’ websites and thought ours wasn’t good enough so we have started to fix it.
“One of the things we will do is put up things that people don’t hear about and give pupils recognition for their achievements.
“Our aim is to celebrate success in the school and promote extra curricular activities.”
Fellow team member Andrew Bain said: “We enjoy doing it as we want to change people’s views of the school as they just read the bad press it gets.”
As well as taking ownership of the website, the pupils are in control of the academy’s Twitter page and hope they can use it as a tool to inform both pupils and parents about events, as well as answering any queries.
The school’s business manager, Simon Clunie meets with the group every week to discuss their work.
Speaking to the Buchanie, he said: “This is a great idea and even more so because it is a self motivated idea from the group to do this.
“We meet on Fridays and everything they suggest gets done straight away, nothing gets put on hold.
“This can make a difference and I think it will.”
