Throughout 2014-2015 the Buchan Active Schools network is continuing to support the Glasgow 2014 Legacy, through the ‘Active Schools Commonwealth Games Legacy Passport’ which encourages pupils at both primary and secondary level to get physically active.
In partnership with local schools, community groups and sports clubs, the aim is to achieve a lasting legacy of participation from the Commonwealth Games by encouraging pupils to use their passport to record their extra-curricular physical activity for the year.
Any sports, physical activity or fitness sessions can be recorded as long as they are part of a community, school, or cluster club.
Certificates can be achieved by reaching specific points totals which are earned by attending after school sessions.
Pupils can work their way up the stages from the initial Participation Level all the way up to the Gold Level certificate! One lucky passport from both the Mintlaw and Peterhead network will also be randomly selected each term to win a special prize!
The project has got off to a great start with about 300 Passports being gathered in from the Buchan area in Term 1 and a total of 155 certificates handed out for pupils achieving high levels of participation!
Well done to all pupils for taking part, it’s great to see so many pupils being active – there were even a few participants reaching Silver already!
It was also fantastic to see that every school in the Mintlaw and Peterhead network is taking part in this scheme to encourage their pupils to do more activity and sport.
A big congratulations were given to Ryan Gill from New Deer School and Isla Buchan from Burnhaven School for both winning our special prize this term – five free family swims in Aberdeenshire Council Swimming Pools.
There is still plenty of time for pupils to join in with this project so get in touch with your local Active Schools coordinator for more information,
Details can be found at www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/recreation/active_schools/groups.asp.
Remember all pupils must remember to hand in their passports at the end of each term to receive their certificate and to be in with a chance of winning our special prize!
