Hundreds of people attended a major careers event at Banff and Buchan College last week
Visitors came from far and wide to the annual Careers Showcase, held at the Atrium of the College. The event included 30 exhibitors who were ready to answer questions on the oil and gas, engineering and manufacturing industries.
Some of the stall-holders who gathered included Aker Solutions, Gray and Adams, Subsea 7 and Wood Group PSN. Commenting, Stephanie Street of Genesis Recruitment said: “I think this is a great opportunity for potential candidates to see what jobs companies have to offer them.”
Wendy Marr, also from Genesis, added: “A big thing for us is to give candidates advice for their CVs and show them the variety of jobs available.”
Corporal Chris Archibald said: “We’ve had a lot of interest from candidates thinking about joining the RAF and making them aware of the different jobs available.”
Judith Cardno from Score Group said: “It’s really good to see so many people at a local event. There’s a good turnout of people who are here to develop their career or look for a new career.”
As well as industry experts and recruitment agencies, representatives from other educational institutions were also in attendance, including Aberdeen College and the Open University.
Open University representative Bruce Heil commented: “It’s a really busy event. We’ve had a lot of people interested in engineering and a lot of people working offshore, and Open University is perfect for them.”
One of the hundreds who attended the event, Rhyce, commented: “Coming to an event like this gives you a really good insight into how big the marine engineering industry is.”
