Burnhaven School pupils have been presented with a Pride of Buchan award following their recent Legion Scotland schools competition success.
The competition challenged P5, P6 and P7 pupils to use their imaginations and produce a newspaper article about life on board a First World War battleship.
Burnhaven’s entry, which reported the story of the British fleet sailing into Scapa Flow after engaging in the Battle of Jutland off the Danish coast.
Local councillor Stuart Pratt explained why the school won the Pride of Buchan award: “When I read the story and they mentioned the bombs, the noise and the damage, it felt like you were there.
“It was quite telling and it really helped to paint a picture.
“Lots of hard work and research went into it and for the school to win the competition is a tremendous achievement.”
Burnhaven head teacher, Sharon Mellin, added: “We are absolutely delighted that the children’s hard work has been recognised by councillors and the local community.”
The school won the competition back in March.
