Alcohol Awareness programme rolls out across Shire schools

MINTLAW Academy is one of 11 secondary schools in Aberdeenshire which is taking part in a new alcohol awareness-training programme.

The programme is being expanded into a number of schools, including Mintlaw, Fraserburgh and Ellon academies, following a successful trial period in Fife.

The ‘Teach-It Alcohol Awareness’ project, aimed at pupils between 12 and 14, addresses the dangers of irresponsible alcohol consumption and has already proved so successful it could be rolled out to a wider Scottish and UK audience.

The academies have introduced the scheme which involves a series of interactive, motivational and confidence-building workshops where pupils explore decision-making, peer pressure, motivation, brain science and emotional intelli

The success of the Fife project has led to a series of training workshops for Aberdeenshire Schools guidance teachers and similar events are planned for Moray, Dundee, and South Lanarkshire educational authorities over the next two months.
