Buchan councillors will be asked to approve a £1.3m extension to Buchanhaven School in Peterhead when they meet on Tuesday.
Members of the Buchan area committee will consider the proposal at their monthly meeting.
The new extension will house school dining and administration offices at the Hope Street site in a bid to cope with growing demand from a rising school roll.
Additionally, the main entrance is being enlarged to create more office space and will also incorporate a disabled toilet, medical room and a more functional main entrance layout.
It is recognised that the cost of the works is significant. Value engineering will be undertaken to ensure value for money.
The local members Councillors Anne Allan, Alan Buchan, Fiona McRae and Alan Gardiner have been consulted.
Councillor Allan is supportive of the recommendations.
The comments of Councillors Buchan, McRae and Gardiner were unavailable at the time of finalising the report.
The Head of Procurement and Procurement Business Partner within Corporate Services have been consulted and have no comments to make.
The break down of the estimated cost for the project is as follows:
Works Cost £ 1,136,000
Decant Costs £ 10,000
Statutory Fees £ 4,000
Property Fees £ 138,000
External Consultant Fees £ 35,000
There are no direct staffing implications arising from this report. An Equality Impact Assessment was not required because the recommended actions (to proceed to tender) will not have a differential impact upon people with protected characteristics.
