THERE was double cause to celebrate at Boddam’s Lighthouse Cottages recently.
Owner Sheila Priest played host to a special wedding when two Italian couples decided to tie the knot at the popular North-east attraction.
Michela Boschi and Luigi Tumminello from Palermo and friends Ilaria Tibalid and Roberto Sandroni from Milan opted to get married while on holiday in Scotland and chose the stunning backdrop of Buchanness Lighthouse as their ideal venue.
Registrar Shirley Dickie was on hand on Friday, June 3, to conduct the ceremony, with both couples celebrating their marriage by drinking from the traditional Scottish quaich.
Michela told the Buchanie: “No-one back in Italy knows we were planning on getting married.
“We wanted to marry abroad and make it a surprise for everyone and we searched on the internet and found that in Scotlandwe could marry by law, then we started to search for a location and found the lighthouse.”
The two couples and their children arrived in Scotland on May 30 and returned to Italy on June 7.
Commenting after their marriage ceremony, Michela added: “We will now just have a nice, relaxing dinner here and have a big party once we get back home.”
