Abbey Court very sheltered housing complex in Mintlaw received a funding boost recently thanks to a successful charity event.
Shirley Hutchison held an all-day Open House event at her home in Longside on Saturday, May 31 and raised £1,771.65 for Abbey Court’s bath hoist fund.
Shirley said: “Unfortunately when the building went up four years ago there was a problem with installing the hoist and it has just been left, meaning that the residents could not use or access the bath with out the provision of a hoist.”
“My father-in-law lived there until he passed away in April, and the standard of care given to the residents is second to none and I wanted to give something back.”
Around £4,000 is required for the bath hoist and various activities have been set up to raise money.
Shirley added: “The fund started off with a donation of £500 from Central Buchan Rotary and we also received £250 from Wood Group and various donations from Abbey Court residents and their families.
“I would like to say thank you to Pink Rose, Nirvanah Spa and Dippity Doo Dah Bears, who came along to sell their wares at the Open House event and donated a generous commission.
“I also received a £200 donation from Laurian Flooring in Clerkhill and £100 from ASCO and various other individuals who could not make it on the day.
“A big thank you to those who provided homebakes and raffle prizes and those who turned out on the day to support us too.”
Abbey Court manager, Tracy Ellington said: “Everyone at Abbey Court cannot say a big enough thank you to to all who have helped in anyway, but especially to Shirley who has been the driving force behind the project.”
